Perfume Bottles
The following paper is meant to be a guide for all our readers, hopefully you too.
Would you believe that a 1930's Mickey Mouse perfume bottle recently was auctioned off for over eight hundred dollars? You probably do not want to know what a signed Tiffany perfume bottle went for at an online auction. It does prove that perfume bottles are big business with collectors in the perfume collection business. There is a long history behind these tiny vessels and one that has evolved quite substantially over the past few thousand years. From humble clay beginnings to elaborate glass creations, they have stood the test of time and Mother Nature.
The first examples of bottles of perfumes and colognes came to the world from the Egyptians and Mesopotamians. These early ancestors would fill clay urns with their fragrances to anoint their bodies both during the day and for special ceremonies. Obviously, smelling good was a priority even then. But do not get your hopes up of owning one of these priceless treasures. These perfume bottles are usually only found in museums, unless bought off the black market and held in a privateer's collection.
The glass and ceramic eau de parfum bottles came to us from the Greeks and Romans during their reign. But the real collectible beauties came about in the 16th and 17th century, courtesy of the Venetians and their colorful glass. These pretty baubles are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. If you are lucky enough to see and touch one in person, then you have definitely hit a milestone in collecting. A damaged or cracked bottle may sell for over five hundred thousand dollars and a mint condition bottle could easily double that if it is signed by the maker and is rare.
Collecting is something that is personal to the collector. What your collection is worth to you is not the same as what it may be worth on the market. If you have some older, great pieces it may be worth quite a bit. However, the actual collecting may be what draws you to perfume bottles on the market today and your choice of a particular scent. The value of an antiquated perfume bottle is no doubt great, but maybe the perfume it held was amazing too.
Thanks for reading the above article I hope the information assisted you in some way.
